Quote of the day: James Dyson – “Exciting failures”

“It’s the failures, the things that go wrong, which are so exciting, because it means we’re not doing something right.”

His first successful product was a new wheelbarrow with a ball instead of wheels (which doesn’t destroy grass, and is made of plastic, so concrete doesn’t stick to it.)

And, of course, the Dyson vacuum (5.5 thousand prototypes later) has been a massive success.

Dyson’s company generates $7 billion a year revenue.

What’s interesting is that most of Dyson’s products – the wheelbarrow, the vacuum, and the washine machine have already existed.

He has not really invented anything new.

He just designed products better.

But, as someone said, if you make an exponential improvement to something, you are inventing something new.
