Great ad for BMW featuring amazing kinetic sculpture powered by the wind — “the walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds.”
and, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle concept by Mercedes with several innovative features, including a hybrid type engine that operates via either fuel cells or lithium batteries, depending on the car’s energy needs. Also interesting is how the seats conform to the body, and can rotate to accommodate kid car seats.
Google launched a patent search product this week. The data is sourced from the official U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but the UI is significantly better than the government sponsored site. Its designed to sort through the approximately 7 million U.S. patents by a number of criteria, including key words, filing date, issue date, patent number, and inventor.
The Hummer O2 concept vehicle won the top design prize at last week’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The vehicle has algae filled body panels that absorb CO2 and generate oxygen. Shape shifting tires have low resistance on freeways, and can handle aggressively off-road. The vehicle is also made with 100 percent post-consumer materials. For more information, click here.
Five San Francisco bus stops have been equipped with “Got Milk?” advertisements that utilize a scent of chocolate chip cookies to trigger an emotional response to the ads. Scents have been used in magazine ads for perfume and cologne, for many years, but this is apparently the first application of scent for outdoor advertising. [via Strange New Products and Neatorama]

Bridge Street Toys recently launched a collection of new industrial building sets of an ice cream factory, an oil refinery, a water treatment plant, and other industrial structures, which have working tanks, pipes, valves, and pumps for water management.
I think the concept is good, but I just wish Bridge Street’s website did a better job of selling them. There should be better images, and video demonstrations.
