PLANT AND GRASS WALLS

Green Fortune has an an innovative way of integrating living greenery into public spaces via its Plant Wall, which has an integrated drip irrigation and fertilization system, and textiles to prevent the spread of moisture. I’m a big believer of bringing “the outside in,” especially in office spaces where many spend a huge chunk of their lives, and hypothesize it can dramatically improve productivity.

An Argentinian company, Ustatic, is developing a grass wall system, which also integrates an irrigation and a moisture retainment substrate.

JELLY FISH SMACK OF THE DAY: A REVERSE AUCTION!

JellyFish, an innovative e-commerce search engine pioneering a Value per Action model, shares with the consumer part of the cost per action compensation generated by its referral. The consumer can easily find the best price across many stores, and also clearly see the ultimate price, which includes the kickback.

The Company just launched a reverse auction feature: An undisclosed quantity of a given product is available for purchase starting at 10:00am PT every weekday, and the price falls every few seconds until the entire inventory is depleted!

CLEAN, FREE, UBIQUITOUS POWER TAPPED FROM THE IONOSPHERE

Tesla_tower.jpg

I just watched The Secret of Nikola Tesla, which features Orson Welles as J.P. Morgan, and according to IMDB was released in 1980, but it has the look and feel of a movie made in the 1960’s, and could definitely use a remake.

Although I was aware of Tesla’s discovery of alternating current, remote control, and discoveries that led to the development of radio and television transmission, I never knew about Tesla’s bold vision for free, clean and ubiquitous energy tapped from the Ionosphere, and transmitted via a wireless power grid around the world.  100 years later, we still have combustion automobile engines, and much of the world’s energy is derived from burning coal.  How ridiculous.   2006  is the 150th anniversary of Nikola’s birth, btw.

An interactive display in Lisbon’s airport advertises the N-90 in a way reminiscent of Minority Report: When passengers approach, the display swivels for optimal viewing, and captures and displays a photographic image of the passenger. It’s only a matter of time before such installations utilize biometric 3-D facial scanning technology to accurately determine your name etc. [thanks, David Polinchock]

WMJ idea of the day: A large video production studio, which would have different modular sets, and also a glorified costume shop and collection, so kids can make really cool video productions.  The studio could be rented out for birthday parties, and there could also be an after-school production class etc. It would be like Build a Bear Workshop but for making movies.
