REINVENTING THE HAMMOCK

Hennessy Hammock has reinvented the conventional hammock and has four patents granted and three patents pending on its revolutionary design. The hammock has an entrance through the bottom that automatically shuts after you’re safely inside, and allows for easy entrances and exits without tipping. The hammock supports your lower back via its patented asymmetrical shape, a typical problem with conventional hammocks. In addition, the hammock has a shelter-cover to provide a wind-proof, bug-proof, and waterproof environment. The hammock is lightweight, and can also be used as a tent, or lounger. Hey- I have one of these! It’s pretty cool especially if you are backpacking and don’t want to carry the extra weight of a tent-though one might miss the homey feeling of a tent where you can easily stash all your stuff. The first two nights the nylon ropes really stretched. But I am hoping on night three there’ll be no more sagging (that’s what the guys at REI promised). For extra insulation, a foam type gound mat works well in the hammock on cool nights (it doesn’t slide as much against the fabric of the hammock as the nylon inflatables do).

WE took two hh on a week-long canoe trip on the suwannee river. Except for one night on a sandbar, we used them all week. The sag from the newness will go away soon and the durability is unbeatable. On a cool night, I tied a space blanket, underneath and on the outside. I truly believe it added ten degrees or so. (kind of crinkly when the wind blew). I will be exploring the idea of a different type of insulation that you can get from Home Depot. Hammock camping! Who would have thought! Driver
